Recent Art

So I've been trying to keep myself busy while being at home. I decided to do some art. It helps keep me distracted, mostly. While I was with my parents at my Grandad's house, I found some artwork that Granni started before she died. I was able to finish the first two pictured there because there was still some paint and brushes at his house. And no one seemed to mind. I think others may have been excited to see them finished.

Once I was home I remembered that I needed to make some amigurumi for an upcoming niece and nephew. The bunny is for the niece and she actually came six weeks early. I wanted to give it to my brother and sister-in-law at the baby shower but I got caught making it and my four year-old niece gave me up. And the monster worked out really well because we found out my sister was having a boy while me being back. Both of these seemed to go over really well.

Then these last things were done just for fun. The sign is actually some wood that Granni left behind and I decided to go ahead and paint "Welcome Foolish Mortals" on it. This references my favorite Disney Park ride: The Haunted Mansion. Originally it was just going to paint everything all flat, but Amber gave me the idea to modge podge the wallpaper on the back. I'm so glad that I did. I love how it turned out. It should be great to use at Halloween time.

Then this is another thing that Granni started but I finished. She made all the squares but one. I had to make one in order to get the pattern to work out. Which is ironic because there's also a square on the back because it's smaller than the others. I like how it turned out. This will be good to put on a table or on the back of a chair. We'll see in the future.

Disney's Newest Ladies (Plus Dragons)

When I'm in my room I've been looking at the 10 Disney Princesses and Merida that I made last spring, and thought to myself that they looked incomplete. Disney has some new leading ladies coming out in November and I knew that I had to make some that would match the ones that I've already made. I know that I should find the time to make some other Disney ladies, but since I'm excited about this movie I figured starting with them would be the best.

I also got around to finishing up the accidental Harry Potter themed dragons. There are the Maroon & Gold, Green & Silver, Blue & Bronze, and now the Yellow & Black. I suppose you can guess which house the dragons belong to. I thought it would be fun to have a matching set of dragons. ;)

I also decided to experiment a little. I have a few extra glass pebbles and I wanted to do something fun with it. Putting the pebble in the center helped me come up with an idea: a dragon's eye. I thought it would be interesting and different than anything I've made before. After baking I put a silver-wash on the clay and then glazed it to help the scales have more texture.

Yet Another Polymer Clay Adventure

This time the polymer madness started because I had an idea for some book charms... and then I kept going. Some of these things I will put on my Etsy shop. I don't think the last two pictures are going to make it on there. One had copyrighted characters and the other picture has some not-so-original ideas.

This dragon matches the Maroon and Gold one from the last polymer adventures. I wanted to use up the glass stones that I have. It just happened that they're going on a Harry Potter color theme. I think I'll have to continue with it. ;)

Hungry like a Zombie?

I had these little bowls from the last time and didn't know what I was going to do with them then. I wanted to make something kind of gross and weird. I think this fits the bill.

The Bibliophile's Charm

 I'm a self-proclaimed bibliophile and I like it when I find another. I really like to talk about books that I'm reading or interested in. It's fun to talk to other writers, as well. I figured making a charm to declare so would be perfect.

Book Genre Charms

These are the charms that got me going on this latest polymer endeavor. I drew up some little images that I thought would convey certain genres and stories. I'm open to other ideas.

These are the charms that I'm not going to put on Etsy... well, Jack and Sally for sure. I don't like the idea of making a profit on copyrighted characters. It doesn't seem right to me. But I like to make them as gifts for friends/family. The ice cream and candycane bunch just didn't seem all that original to put up. I even debated putting them up here on the blog, but I figured what the heck?

Polymer Cat & Unicorns

As per usual, I've been pretty bad at uploading new crafts that I made the day of. I had put these on my instagram (@geisha-neko) but no where else. Now I'm finally getting to it. I've got to get a lot better at this.

As you can see I decided to take a try at making a cat figure. I'm pretty pleased on how it turned out except for the shape of its head. I think I'm going to change the shape of it if I ever get to make another kitty. I also wanted to add some fun details by painting it with acrylics before glazing it. I really do like how the details came out.

My older brother is getting married in July and my mother and I have been going crazy getting things ready for it. Turns out that his fiance really likes the movie Tangled so we're trying to incorporate it with their colors in mind. We decided that it would be funny to make some unicorns that will go around the reception in random places. I'm hoping that some of the guests will get the reference. My brother's fiance already did. That made me happy.  ;) Oh, and the eyes are swarvoski crystals. I thought it would be a nice touch.

Post-Graduation

I'm--I'm blogging? What is this craziness?! Oh yeah. I've graduated college and now have free time. What a concept.

I thought that I would go ahead and show everyone what I have been up to since I've been home. ART. Yeah, I now have time for art again. Hopefully I'll be able to find a nice balance between that, reading, writing, and other things that I want to do.

This is an acrylic painting triptych based on the movie My Neighbor Totoro. I've had the idea for some time but it wasn't until a few days ago that I could finally get to painting this. I'm glad that I did, but now I don't have a spot for them. Oh well.

I follow an artist on deviantART who goes by DragonsAndBeasties. Not too long ago she put up a video tutorial on how she makes her dragons. I decided to take a crack at it. The blue one was my first attempt but I ran out of navy clay to do the wings. The next dragon is done in a glow-in-the-dark clay and since it's considerably smaller than the other I was able to do the wings. I like how they turned out and hope to develop my own item that can transcend ages and groups that I can make and sell from what I've learned.

I'm pretty excited about this Friday. While I was messing with clay yesterday I thought it would be fun to make a couple of things that I could wear to The Avengers. I decided to make an Iron Man pendant to wear as a necklace and the A from The Avengers logo as earrings. They should be fun to wear whenever I see it. We're still not sure if we're going at midnight, yet.
