The second movie that I saw this summer was The Last Airbender. Originally, this movie was called Avatar: The Last Airbender like the show it's based off of; but you can blame another block buster for the title change.
I like the original cartoon so I was really curious to see how this would turn out. I didn't care so much for the 'casting fiasco' because I don't believe that they all needed to be Asian. Even if the cartoon is in anime doesn't mean that everybody has to be Asian. How many Asian people do you know that have Katara and Sokka's dark skin color? I didn't think so.
I have to say that I walked out of the movie theater neutral. The acting got better by the end and I wasn't impressed with the 3D. I really need to convince everyone that 3D is only necessary for animated movies. The element bending was cool in 3D but that was all. I also felt like the story was going way too fast. I know that they have to jam an entire season into one movie but I think I would have liked the movie to be longer. The main story points remained the same so that made me happy. I was also happy that there was some humor and that the actors sounded a lot like their cartoon counterparts.
Go ahead and see if you want. You might have fun as there is some fun to be had. But be aware that it moves fast.
