Dracula

Today I finally finished reading Dracula by Bram Stoker. I don't remember when I started reading this because I've had the book in my possession for a few years. It came with Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with an introduction by Stephen King. I had to read Frankenstein for my English class my senior year. (LOVED it, by the way.) And so you can deduct that this isn't the cover that mine is but is published by the same company; so it's the unabridged version like mine.

As I myself am writing a story about vampires I thought that it would be prudent to read this as research. I'm so glad that I did. I can see why this is a classic and has lasted for over 100 yrs. The language is fascinating and the story is gripping. It's written in the style of different journal entries. You hear things from different point of views and it adds more depth to the story.

If you want horror but not gruesome horror, then this is the book for you. Bram Stoker is able to achieve so much in the reader's mind without scaring them with images of gore. When you get to the end of the book the climax builds so rapidly. I had to put it down due to classes unfortunately. D= I mean, I did have to pay attention to the professors. ;) When I finished I wanted more. I think any good book should leave you feeling that.

So, if you have the time, read this. You'll get used to the language pretty fast and just enjoy the story. =)

This has been on my to read list for a while. I just haven't got around to it. Maybe, I'll have to read it with all the reading and writing I'll be doing as an English major. We'll see.

PS - I'm actually not further than Japanese 201. I only took a year at Snow College. And, then because I was out of it for a while, I took 102 again. And, because it's been almost 10 years since I've taken a class, I'm probably going to start out with 102 in January. Then, I'll go to 201 in Fall next year. So, you might be ahead of me by the time I feel like I've caught up. ;)

You should totally read it. ^^

I'll be in 202 next semester. So, I'm going to be ahead although I still have trouble speaking sentences straight from my head.
