Amigurumi: A New Hobby.

While I was browsing the "Plushies" section of deviantART, I found something I thought was cool. They were stuffed animals completely made out of yarn. I found out that they're known as amigurumi (ah-me-gu-ru-me), the Japanese art of using yarn to make stuffed animals. I wanted to know more. I did some research and found some tutorials to help me make one. I continued by making my first one, and I think it turned out pretty well. However, I can't show it here. It's a Christmas present and this person might come online and see it. ;)

So meet Ami (ah-me). At first I wanted to make a tall and skinny amigurumi; but as it went on I didn't get the spherical shape for the head. So after that I made quite a few adjustments.

Ami was a lot of fun to make. I used a softer yarn to make her because my skin is sensitive to the rougher stuff. I had a ton of black and maroon yarn leftover from various scarves I made. The color were what inspired me the most. I added the little skulls for that extra detail.

For Ami I decided that I wanted to make a little hat. I wasn't sure how to make one; and after searching the internet for patterns for ear holes, I decided I had to create one on my own. I'm so glad that it turned out so well. ^^ I also decided to attach the limbs with buttons so she could stand or sit.

She's really cute. I may enjoy this hobby as well. Is it basically crocheting or something completely different with yarn?

It's basically single stitching in rounds. It's very easy to do. If you go to deviantart.com and type "amigurumi tutorials" it will show you the basics you need to know.
